Columbus Duathlon another success

COLUMBUS — Fullerton’s Vince Koziol won the men’s single participant side of the Columbus Duathlon Saturday, finishing with a time of 52 minutes, 49 seconds. Koziol ran in the 20-24 age group.
The top female single participant was Melissa Kosch, of Omaha, who finished in a time of 1:03:18.
Proceeds of the duathlon benefit Columbus Area Recreational Trails (CART), a non-profit organization formed to provide leadership in the construction of the trails system in Columbus.
The Sprint Duathlon consisted of a 2-mile run course followed by a 11.4-mile bike course and another 2-mile run to the finish line.
“We had beautiful weather for a race.” Co-race Director Jason Buss said. “The lotus were in bloom on Lake Babcock, and the CCC campus looked beautiful. We had some great competitors come from far away.”
The Columbus Duathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the sport of triathlon’s national governing body.
The duathlon’s sponsors helped raise nearly $2,000 for Columbus Area Recreational Trails. Those sponsors were:
Hy-Vee, Columbus Community Hospital, Nebraska Cycling and Fitness, Columbus Medical Center, Penzoil – 10 minute oil Change, HyDrive Energy Drink, Loup Public Power District, Central Community College, Airbonne Internaional and Culligan.
